Nice story, well written but extremely sad. About a girl with a pain and domination fetish. She has a great relationship with her best friend, but keep her fetish as a secret. So when her friend finds out she does not understand and reject her. I was hoping for a happy ending, sadly it does not have one
Well written! I am trying not to spoil the story but it had me in tears and was tough to finish. I know that it's a work of fiction, but it had me feeling so many emotions and I felt invested in the story and the characters. I can't wait to read Ms. Nortons next book.
A good read. Not wall to wall boinkfest. Starts with nice long review of a friendship which lets us get to know our protagonist, making her real and sympathetic.
One problem. The book is formatted as justified (edge to edge text) but without the needed hard set paragraph indents. So it's can be very distracting.
For the formatter include this line in your html style.css heading before converting it for upload and it will fix that P { text-indent 0.3in; text-align justify }
WOW!! what a book, Emotionaly hard to read but worth it. Ellie has done a wonderful job to create the character and emotions of Veronica, If i was told i was reading somebody's actual thoughts i wouldn't doubt it. I read books every day and go through many per week of many genre's but this is the first story to not only bring many tears to my eyes, but brought many emotions throughout the book. This has been a great insight into a world that very few people can ever understand. I do sometimes read storys with BDSM in them, It's not my thing but i do like to read about other types of lives so different from my own, I like to keep an open mind so reading keeps my interest in the many aspects of the world outside of my own.
I would definitly recommend this book, but it should be read with a very open mind and if not then i don't doubt that it could open it up for some.
'The Pain I Like' has just landed on my top 3 list and i doubt there will be a book anytime soon to knock it off.
The warning at the front of this book is serious. I started crying through the last three chapters and it took a half hour after finishing to finally stop crying and uncurl. I want to give this book five stars and one star at the same time. It is well written and complex, especially the characters, especially Veronica. The tragedy of Veronica in the end, it hits far too close to home, to my own fears. I was hoping for a happy ending, she reunites with Mistress, Taylor comes to accept her and love her, maybe becoming her Mistress, or she finds a new Mistress to own her. The ending I got...
As someone in the community, as someone who admires and respects Pain-sluts and Hard bottoms, as a Domme with switch tendencies who would need that level of intensity from her Mistress to submit to her; the ending hurt, physically hurt in my heart. As good as this book is, I hate it, that I wish I never read it. This story is going to be with me forever; the only other thing that has affected me like this was the video game "Enola". It made me realize things I wasn't aware worried me as much as they do. It scared me, made me confront those fears.
I know that despite the pain of reading this book, and knowing now exactly how it will end; in time, I will come back and read it again, because within the pain, there is pleasure.
This book had me on such a roller coaster of emotions I cried. Well worth the read. Thank you to the author.
