Scepter The Last Scribe Prequels Book 2 eBook R Lee Walsh Reviews

Once again you pulled me into this intriguing world. Can't wait for the next one.
This story continues to engage me. Scepter is the prequel to Irin and I can't get enough of these. The writing is sharp, the story interesting and the characters intriguing. I can tell an epic battle is coming! When is the book coming out? Anyone know?
I love the characters and the plot keeps you flipping through the pages wondering what's going to happen. You really believe them when you read these books and get completely immersed in their adventures. Loving it so far, waiting for more!
Scepter, the second of the Last Scribe Prequels, is as well rounded as Irin, the first one. Walsh flexes her writerly muscles by displaying her knowledge of POV, employing multiple variations throughout this novella. What's more, it actually enhances the story, something a less talented writer would struggle to achieve.

This story provides more background info on the Irin than the first novella, and we learn about their leader, Scepter, and his connection to the protagonist of the entire series, a girl named Hope. The main antagonist, Scepter's brother, is also introduced. One of my favorite things about these novellas is how quickly Walsh is able to get your emotions invested in each character. We truly get a sense that they exist, that they have a past, present, and future.

I mentioned this in my review of Irin, but it deserves another mention. Walsh not only has a potentially epic story here with the Last Scribe, she also possesses top-notch prose. This is rare, especially in young adult/new adult. There's a smoothness to it, and before you realize it, you're twenty pages in, then fifty, then you're finished. It's easy to disappear Walsh's stories because of this, and I'm very much looking forward to the next novella, as well as the novel's release.
This is probably one of the worst books I have ever read. There is no exposition, no explanation of any of the characters. I felt like I was reading almost random scenes thrown together, with no idea why one connected with the next. Evidently the reader was supposed to come into this story with a great amount of knowledge of the world involved in this tale. I was looking forward to a tale of a race of beings I had known nothing about, and I came away with the same amount of information I started with. Nothing.
The second book in this series is just as good if not better than the first. After reading "Irin" I was curious as to what was going to happen next. Such is the nature of reading a new series. However, after reading "Scepter" I was on the edge of my seat! As a prequel, it blends perfectly into the events of its predecessor, finally answering some of the questions about the characters and events that were burning in the back of my mind. Fortunately, "Scepter" gives small clues as to the characters futures without revealing too much, leaving the reader wanting more and more. If these stories are any clue as to to the calibre of R. Lee Walsh's writing, we can only expect great things from her in the future.
Cannot get enough of these characters. I can definitely tell something big is going to happen. Both Irin and Scepter are written so well and smoothly they leave you wanting more. When these series finally hit the shelves its going to be huge
This story completely draws you in. It's wonderfully written, and smoothly transitions scene to scene as you learn more about the race of immortal beings. You can feel that the story is leading to something big. It follows Irin perfectly, can't wait for more. Would definitely recommend.
