Ashlee Chadwick Davenport has been a widow for only a month when she finds disturbing evidence suggesting that her husband Jack—pillar of the community, church deacon, principled businessman—might have been much less honorable than he seemed. I have enjoyed Gwen Hunter's series featuring Dr. Rhea Lynch. Ashlee Davenport, the lead character in this book, is a secondary character in the other series. I am glad I read the other series first, even though there were some spoilers. But this book was good on its own. I much prefer this author's other series written as Faith Hunter. This protagonist is no Jane Yellowrock! But good writing is good writing, and I recommend this book to fans of the other series to hold you until the next books come out. The lead is not as strong a character as Dr. Rhea and a universe less strong than Jane, but she is a solid, normal person, well drawn and realistic. Well worth the price.Product details

I enjoyed this book, it was fast moving. Good mystery, kept me guessing who the villian was. I am reading another of Gwen Hunter's books and will probably continue to read her books.

Oh, this is very well written, never slow, you will enjoy this book.
Wish I had listened to some others reviews. The woman never stopped crying! Too much for me, couldn't wait to finish it. Sad really, as I normally enjoy her writing.
Good writing but the plot was predictable. Especially If I can figure it out at 40% read. There was some interesting discussion of the "southern " way.
This is another great book by an author who doesn't write any other kind. Believable characters and a plot that will keep you guessing until the end. Lots of twists and turns and a very surprising ending.
It is a gift that one is automatically observant. So many people walk through life oblivious to their surroundings, environment. Gwen Hunter is a unique writer who is capable of taking her observations from day to day living and vividly describe a scene that places the reader in that scene. A good twist for the ending completed this good read.
Writing as Faith Hunter, this author's Jane Yellowrock series is one of my favorites. However, I skipped the last 40% of this book for several reasons. The heroine constantly cried or vomited all over every thing. There was way too much violence against the animals in the story as well as description of injuries in wrecks and the emergency room. I figured out who the villain was less than half-way through the book. Just didn't work for me.
